How I Work + Tips & Tricks
Why I want you to arrive 15 minute earlier
I could easily start on time and have you pose for me from the start, but I don't want to do this. I prefer to prepare you before hand and instead get to know you a little bit and take away some stress from meeting a new person, me, from you. I know how you must feel, a little tense and nervous and I do not want you to start the session this way. I want you to unwind a little bit by having a little chat with me before hand. And these are the things we will talk about.
Movement.
I love and adore movement. Hence, when I guide you into a pose, and I will do it a lot, I won't expect you to stay in it. I want you to move. I want you to be playful with your movements, with your smiles and glances, I want you to whisper funny or romantic phrases to each other.
And I will, obviously, guide you and ask you questions like, "what do you adore the most about each other?" and please, don't answer these questions to me directly. Look at each other and speak these things into each others' souls. I want to document that.
Posture
Good and proper posture is crucial in photography. I know, I know. It seems so basic and benign almost. But it is true. Elongate your silhouette and eliminate your double chin by keeping your neck long and, well, "proud" and confident looking. It will make you feel better and once I will show you the first results on my camera you will see what I am talking about!
Shift Your Perspective
It is impossible to forget you are in front of the camera when all you think is the camera. Try, instead, to focus on the two of you. I am not a typical photographer who only poses people in front of pretty backgrounds. When you work with me, you need to shift your perspective on photography. I want to capture the real interactions you two share in real life, I want the pictures I take to always remind you of who you are and who you were when you were younger. Hence, I want you two to interact and be real so I can document the true love you two share. Not just fake smiles and stiff bodies.
Colors and Patterns
When choosing your colors try to opt for something that goes along with your surroundings or the season. Look at the sample picture next to this text. Cara and Evan opted for the blue scheme color, where Cara wore a blue dress and Evan paired with black jeans and a shirt with blue, black and white pattern. It worked out perfectly! They coordinated their outfits without matching.
This type of blue mixed in ideally with the greenery of the forest, as if a bit of the sky peeped through the trees, or a little part of the forest stream let us look at it. It looks natural and beautiful. They look like they belong there.
If you want to pair with the seasons then think of red, beige, brown, and black for fall; pastels and other gentle colors for spring and summer, and cooler tones along with black for winter.
If you have a hard time deciding on your colors and patterns, let me know. Send me pictures of your design choices and I will tell you what my personal opinion is;).
Change of clothes or shoes
Bring a backpack with you with additional clothes and shoes that you can quickly put on or change when needed. If we will be hiking I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and taking with you some nicer heels or wedges in your backpack that you can easily put on when we are ready to shoot. I can carry your backpack for you so we can easily take photos without you wearing it.
Be Yourself
If you wear makeup, wear makeup but don't try anything new or bold if you don't wear bold makeup. Your session is not a good time to experiment with new things, instead wear things that really work for you, that were tried in the past and are a killer. You want to feel your best and confident, and the best way to do it is to know that what you are wearing worked for you in the past!
FAQ
Can I bring my pet to the session?
Yes, please! If they are a part of your family and they are what makes you whole I want to most certainly photograph you with your pet.
What props should I bring?
Big round hats, blankets, picnic baskets, etc... anything you think that would transform your photographs into something special that represents your lifestyle is welcome. Let me know what you plan on bringing and I will give you my feedback!
